On the 17th & 18th of
May Iain Abernethy & Mike Liptrot will be teaching a unique
two day martial arts seminar! This seminar is open to all martial
artists - regardless of background and style - who wish to develop
competence in a wide range of martial skills. The training will
be a combination of the physical and the theoretical (including
short lectures and presentations).
This one of a kind training
opportunity will see Iain and Mike covering the following topics:
Gichin Funakoshi's nine
karate throws!
Impact development (increasing
your striking power)
Throwing principles (the
concepts you need to understand to ensure your throws work!)
The non-combative aspects
of self-protection (threat awareness, assessment & avoidance)
How the body and mind
respond to the stresses of combat
Ground fighting chokes,
strangles & arm-locks
Developing solo kata into
two-man drills
Effective striking transitions
to ensure maximum speed
Breakfalls and basic gymnastics
Passing the guard
How to construct training
drills with improvised / homemade equipment
And more!
For those attending both
days, a special optional activity (with a guest instructor
highly recommended by both Iain & Mike) has been planned for
the evening of Saturday the 17th! This is a fun and relaxing activity
that you are sure to enjoy and benefit from (ask Iain or Mike for
details if curiosity is getting the better of you ;-)
People may attend the whole
weekend or just one of the days. Both days will stand alone was
well complement each other. A certificate of attendance - signed
and stamped by Iain & Mike - will be issued to all participants.

Important:
The seminar is limited to
16 year olds and above. All participants must have a valid licence
(to be produced on the day) and must be practising martial artists.
Purchasing a ticket guarantees your place, and as such all tickets
are non-refundable. You will be sent (by mail or email) a booking
number which you will be checked off against on the day.
Directions:
Leave
the M6 Motorway at Junction 36. If coming from the South, take the
first exit off the slip road round-a-bout. If coming from the North,
take the third exit (Signposted Kendal & Barrow.) Follow the
Dual Carriageway until you pass a petrol station. Take the next
exit and head into town. At the traffic lights turn right. At the
round-a-bout take the first exit. In approximately 300 yards turn
right into a wide road (Parkside Road). In approximately 150 yards
turn right into a narrow lane (opposite the Cemetery on your left).
Follow the lane and you will come to Kendal Judo Club Dojo.
Iain Abernethy: Iain
has been involved in the martial arts since childhood. Iain holds
the rank of 5th Dan with both the British Combat Association and
Karate England. One of the leading exponents of applied karate,
Iain has written a number of critically acclaimed books on the practical
application of traditional martial arts and is well known for his
work on the pragmatic use of the techniques and concepts recorded
in the traditional kata. Iain is in great demand on the seminar
circuit and teaches many seminars on his approach to practical karate
both here in the UK and overseas.

Mike
Liptrot: Mike is a full time
international judo coach who started judo at the age of six. Thanks
to the massive influence of Tony Macconnell, Mike had a successful
competition career. His first International experience was when
he was sixteen years old. It was the Dutch Open and for his first
contest he had, as his opponent, World and Olympic Champion, the
Russian, Nicolai Soloduchin. Mike says he still remembers the left
Uchi Mata! One of the UK's leading grappling coaches, Mike's teaching
is in great demand. Mike also recently produced his first DVD on
Judo.
